Straw-yellow with a hint of gold. The nose opens wide: white peach and dried chamomile, with an undertone of almond and a whiff of sea air — traces of the long lees ageing. On the palate the wine is full and full-bodied, with a juicy acidity that holds the 15% alcohol effortlessly in balance and keeps the wine surprisingly fresh for its weight. Spicy notes of fennel seed and citrus peel return in a long, lightly bitter finish reminiscent of almond skin. Serve well chilled with grilled white meat or poultry in a spiced marinade — the wine's structure calls for a dish with just as much character.

    About this wine

Fattoria San Lorenzo sits in the rolling hills of Montecarotto, in the heart of the Marche region. Since 1995, owner and winemaker Natalino Crognaletti has farmed the estate entirely biodynamically, without added yeasts or interventions that would mask the character of the grape. Across some thirty hectares grow the grapes for roughly eighty thousand bottles a year — wines given the time to become themselves.

Campo delle Oche comes from one of the estate's older plots, in the vineyard that lent the wine its name. The grapes — exclusively Verdicchio — are fermented with wild yeasts and as little intervention as possible.

After fermentation the wine rests for over three years on its fine lees, moving between stainless steel and concrete tanks — a long, patient ageing that gives the wine its unusually mature structure for a Verdicchio barely a few years old.
