The Vermentino di Monteverro 2024 is the pure, fresh expression of the Tuscan coast crafted by Julia and Georg Weber. Made from 100% organically grown Vermentino, aged entirely in stainless steel on fine lees for six months, this wine captures the Mediterranean joie de vivre of the Maremma in a glass. A light, mineral-rich white where sea, sun and the herbal aroma of the macchia come together — perfect as an aperitif and as a companion to seafood and shellfish.
In the glass, a brilliant, pale gold-green with clear reflections. On the nose, expressive and inviting: an explosion of grapefruit, lime and white peach, with delicate nuances of freshly cut grass and exotic touches of starfruit and mango. On the palate, a refreshing entry, lively and crisp, with a core of white peach, pear and fresh almond. The body is light yet precise, supported by a refined, juicy acidity. The finish is remarkably long and mineral, with a characteristic saline note and a subtle bitterness of grapefruit pith that gives the wine its sea-breeze personality. An excellent match with grilled sea bass, spaghetti alle vongole, burrata with lemon and small fried fish.
Monteverro is the leading coastal estate of Julia and Georg Weber in Capalbio, in the southern Maremma. Inspired by Bordeaux and accompanied by the constant presence of the Tyrrhenian Sea, they have been building a reference estate for Tuscan coastal wines since 2003. The vineyards lie on stony red clay soils, surrounded by olive groves and the aromatic macchia. Within Monteverro's otherwise Bordeaux-oriented range, this Vermentino is a deliberate tribute to the great white grape of the Tuscan coast. The grapes grow on clay and limestone soils, on vines planted at a density of 5,555 per hectare in north-south orientation. The constant sea breeze and cool nights give the wine its characteristic tension, freshness and minerality. Harvest is carried out entirely by hand. In the cellar, whole clusters are gently pressed, followed by a controlled fermentation in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation takes place, in order to preserve Vermentino's natural acidity and freshness. The wine then ages for six months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, lending texture and aromatic depth without any wood imprint. The wine receives a light filtration before bottling. The result is a Vermentino that captures Italy's joie de vivre: light in alcohol, clear in expression, and carrying the unmistakable saline signature of a wine that grows just five kilometres from the sea.
